about me

my first blog post

Hi! I’m so glad you are reading my FIRST blog post! I am Flirtingwith_50 …and beyond. This is something I have been wanting to do for a long time now, and I am excited to jump in and test the waters!

I have had a public Instagram account now for a little over a year now http://www.instagram.com/flirtingwith_50 and it’s been very satisfying…and I have met so many new “Instafriends” along the way, from all over the world. Having this platform has made me look forward to sharing my point of view at the age of (gulp)…50. There, I said it! I consider myself more of a lifestyle blogger, which allows me to blog about many facets of my life that are important to me. I am still interested in clothes and style and fashion as much now as I was in the past. I don’t want to be told to wear something age appropriate, I have sense, I have style, I decide how I am going to look. And I want to pass that on to other women in my age range. I want to have a voice in the place of social media where the majority of influencers are young, and are beautiful models with great bodies, that represents women like me. Slightly older, but not old. More mature, but not retired. Fabulous at 50.

This year leading up to my momentous birthday has been filled with many emotions. Being older makes me realize how precious our lives are. For the good or sometimes for the bad, this is my life, and I don’t want to be old someday and say I could have, I should have. I want to be inspired and I want to inspire others!

For those of you who don’t know me, I spend most of my time in Rhode Island where I reside and have all my life. I travel to Massachusetts and New Hampshire quite a bit because it’s where my two sons go to school. I shop local and love to frequent local restaurants as much as I can! See more “about me” on my blog!

There is much more than just taking a selfie and posting it on Instagram. There is planning content, shopping for clothes, props, figuring out locations, taking the photos, editing them and presenting them in a way that is pleasing for someone who is scrolling through social media. There are promotions and hashtags and catchy phrases…I want people to stop and take a longer look. I want them to engage with me, support me and follow me. I have a voice and something to share…we all do! I am marketing myself and putting myself out there. It’s not always easy…I am my worst critic! In the end, I have a feeling of satisfaction that I have done something for myself that is positive, and I hope that my readers think so too. I am open to ideas, constructive criticism and opportunities to grow. I appreciate all of you who take the time to look, read, comment, like and engage with me. I look forward to a long relationship with you all as I flirt with 50…and beyond!

~Karen
