Curly, straight and back to curly again!
My hair could literally have it’s own Instagram!
Here’s the story…my hair. I have always had a lot of it! It is naturally wavy…and dark brown! When I was really young, it was long. Then my mom actually kept it rather short. Try as I might, I tried to grow my hair long, but it always just grew out (and up)! I started getting perms because it was the thing to do. Before my senior in high school I cut it short…really short. That was the last time it was so short. Eventually I started getting spiral perms (do you remember the spiral rods?). My hair started growing longer…finally. By the time I graduated college, and then got married, it was pretty long. Then what did I do, I cut it short again! Into a bob, which again I decided I didn’t like, and eventually grew out again. Skip ahead to 50…and it’s the longest my hair has been EVER! And I love it!
Of course, I haven’t had a perm since I was probably 20 years old, but my hair stuck, and is now naturally wavy curly. You can still see the spiral curls my hair has morphed into. Sometimes it can be quite wild, so I change it up and straighten it. I can go 3, 4 sometimes 5 days without washing, which really makes getting ready in the morning a piece of cake! I even sometimes will curl my hair with a wand on my last “straight” day, just for some softer curls. I guess you could say I am pretty lucky my hair works in so many ways.
I inherited my grandmother’s full head of hair, and I am extremely grateful! Even thought I started coloring my hair in my 20’s, and have to maintain faithfully to cover my grays (ugh), I manage. My hair might just be my best accessory!
