Why a blog? Why not?!!

After I turned 49, I began to get anxious…real anxious about turning 50. I wanted to do something that made me feel good about myself, so I started an Instagram account. I already had a personal one, but this one I was going to devote to me and things that I liked, such as fashion, style, exercise, growing pains…

Now over 2 years later, I have decided to branch out even further and show you my blog. It will be a continuation of my Instagram…just expanded to include more information!

Who am I

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Karen Zangari Varin, 52 years old from Rhode Island. I graduated with a degree in Mass Communications from Rhode Island College, and currently work at a Marketing and Sales company. I have held many positions since college, although nothing has been more rewarding than being a mom to my two sons, Jimmy (22) and Tyler (19). I am a total sports mom which is perfect for me because I love sports! Of course I never played sports as a kid because I was a dancer. That was my main focus most of my life growing up. I really never stopped, although issues with my back and neck pretty much restrict me at the moment from any type of dancing!

I started at age 5, and started dancing with a dance company at age 16, so my “prime” years as a dancer were when I was older. Dancing led to teaching, and then choreographing, and then becoming the assistant director of a small dance company here in Rhode Island. I cherish my memories as a dancer, and some of my best friends in the world are my “dance friends”. We had a blast and still do.

You can find me nowadays staying close to home with my family and friends. I work full time, so when I have spare time, I like to do what makes me happy. Spending time with my boys, my boyfriend, shopping, hiking, photography, reading, relaxing with good food and good drinks…that is what makes me happy.

My friends and family will tell you that I love taking pictures…but what they really mean is that I like having pictures taken of me! I always enjoyed photography as a hobby. I would take pictures of anything and see what looked good. When I had my boys, I took pictures non-stop. I even scrapbooked for quite a while, something I would love to get back into. I also always liked my picture taken, and although I have never modeled, I have realized after taking so many pictures for Instagram, I must say it is not as easy as it looks!

Well now you know a little bit about me, I hope you will want to know more. I promise to be engaging and interesting and real. That’s what I look for in a blog. Feel free to let me know what you think! As you have noticed, I am no longer Flirting With 50, I AM 50 (52 shhh)! So now I am going to embrace what lies ahead…and beyond.
